Hands on Shamanic Healing

As a young child I was lucky enough to be introduced to energy and the invisible growing up talking to my guardian angels every day.

Hands on Sharmanic Healing is an adjunct or secondary action. The client seeing their doctor is always primary.

Hands on Healers make no claims. Hands on healers promise nothing. Hands on healers come in a nonjudgmental, compassionate manner to the Healee and that is all.

The Healee always makes the decision as to whether or not they want the laying of the healers hands on them is required. It is always the Healee’s choice. Not the Healer’s.

I have learned a lot over the course of my life and at this point I would like to share some of my insights regarding the art of what is called by some shands on shamanic healing, and by others spiritual healing, both names are just that, different ways of calling similar processes where the only true difference is the Ancient Cultures they arose from.

Read and Remember This Points

Some very important considerations you should read and consider are:

1. Healer or Conduit? I do not like to state that we, the healers, “heal” anything. It is a pretty conceited and inaccurate statement. Rather, what we really are, if we follow a protocol that I will reveal in this article, we are like a hollow pipe through which the Divine Cosmic Energy of pure love can flow. I am an “empty tube”, a channel or a conduit through which cosmic energy flows to the individual who is asking for our help to alleviate their suffering. We are simply a part of a greater process.

2. Can Anyone do this? Anyone can lay hands on someone else, and become a conduit for the energy that surrounds us, in order to help alleviate symptoms. There are no “special” people who can do this. Everyone can do it, without question. The only difference between us is that I grew up in an environment where hands on healing was normal and expected and perhaps you did not. As a child, I thought every father laid his hands on his kids to help alleviate their suffering. I was wrong about this as I left the nest of the home and got into school. The point is, however, that all humans and all beings on this planet, are able to become a transit point for cosmic energy to come through them to us.

Anyone can lay hands on a human, animal, place or thing and bring the healing energy through to help any of them.

3. The Energy of Love. “Cosmic energy” can be defined by us. The divine sends this loving energy. If you are Muslim, then you may say it comes from another source. Or, Buddhist, or Christian… you get the picture here. In other words, we don’t need to give up our belief in a creator to do hands on healing. Whatever and whomever we believe in will be just fine. The energy that surrounds us is pure love. We can access it at any time for
ourselves or others. It is always available.

4. Getting out of the Way. In order to work with this energy from the Cosmos, we must get out of the way. What does this mean? Well, it means putting all our judgments and expectations of outcome to one self. I have a favorite saying: “Expect nothing, receive everything”. As a child, I really didn’t understand the meaning of this saying, but as an adult, I certainly do.

We learn through our pain, and we all need to respect this process in others. Steel only gets stronger through fire, pain is our fire that continues to strengthen our soul.

A hand’s on healer can interrupt this healing pain wave that is taking place within us. Everyone should work through their pain so that it is not suppressed/repressed and become unhealthy. As healers we need to be able to put ourselves in a space where we are not putting our ‘spin’ on the cosmic energy funneling through us to the other person. We don’t want to taint the energy with our own expectation of neither the outcome nor
our judgment. Because if we do, all of those intentions can muddy the whole process and cause disruptions and imbalances under our hand. Therefore we must give serious thought to why we want to give a hand’s on healing and to remove ourselves from the process so that we are, indeed, merely an empty vessel through which cosmic energy flows. The manner in which this energy is utilized by the Healee, is up to them not us. We must remove ourselves from the process. Be neutral observers who stand in an aura of love non-judgmentalis as we place our hands upon those seeking our help.

5. The Dynamics of Permission. The other consideration in the healing process: the Healee receiving the cosmic energy that is “out there” and is funneling through us because we have given it permission to do so. The healee, the person receiving this from us and the Cosmos, is not a lump on a log while this is all going on. Indeed not. Did you know that a human, animal, place or thing can Block or Stop the energy funneling through us to them? They have a right to stop it either consciously or subconsciously. This means that when we ask if we can lay our hands on them, we must get their permission to do so. We can never assume someone wants us to lay hands on them. We must ask them first.

I have sometimes seen a person say “yes” consciously when asked if they would like a healing, yet, on an unconscious level, they deflect it and do not absorb it.

Why? Because on some level they are not ready to get well. They are learning important lessons by being ill. And it is their choice as to when they get well, not ours. And we must respect that. If we expect that the person will improve after we have laid our hands on them if they do not, then we are not in the correct space as nonjudgmental catalysts. We should not take it personally one way or another. From your perspective, there are many things we do not know about the person, their path in life, their reasons or the greater cosmic plan they have for themselves. All or any of these come into play as to whether cosmic energy is absorbed into
them or it is not.

If a person is unconscious or does not speak our language we do understand, then mentally ask for permission to lay our hands on them. We will get an answer. How? We will feel or sense it. Those who are sensitive will definitely get a feeling that means “yes” or “no”. A feeling of lightness, happiness or joy may be a “yes.” A “no” may be a feeling as if in a vacuum, or we receive no emotional or sensing indicator that feels like permission. Those who aren’t as sensitive may think they get nothing at all, but the fact is tnat we are just not attuned to the more refined energies to receive the answer. A good rule of thumb is: if in doubt leave it out, if we do not sense the answer, we should not do it. And by the way, not all beings want to receive healing. And if we force ourselves on a being without respect for their wishes and answers, then we are no longer healers.

In ideal circumstances, we have permission, we remove our expectations and judgment so that the energy can be untainted and whole as it is received by the healee.

6. Grounding Ourselves. One of the biggest mistakes a laying on of hands beginner makes is not getting grounded before they begin. Rather, what ends up occurring if they are ungrounded, is to give their own energy from their own auric fields to the other person. This is an energy transfusion for sure but in the end, the healer/catalyst feels like a weak, drained or tired afterwards. If we get any of these symptoms, then we are not doing the healing correctly.

To ground ourselves, we need to find a quiet place to sit down and do it. Close our eyes and get relaxed. Take a deep breath into our body, through our chest and all the way down into our abdomen. Then, slowly release it through our mouth. Repeat this breathing three times. Then, let us visualize the silver roots of a tree winding gently around our ankles two or three times. Then, let us see the tip of the root going down through the centre of each foot and diving deeply into the earth at least one-hundred or so feet. These “roots” ground us. In the same way as electrical equipment, we have a grounding wire on us creating a “grounding wire” going from our body to Mother Earth. This creates an anchoring and also ensures that the cosmic energy comes through us and the energy does not come from us.

When we finish visualizing the roots, we open our eyes and we are ready to stand up or we go and sit with those who have requested our help.

7. Which hand do we use to gve healing?: We use our right hand to give energy to another person. Our left hand pulls energy into us. If we were to use our left hand to try and ‘heal’ with, we are drawing energy out of the person we are trying to help they will feel weaker, more tired, their symptoms will intensify and over all, they will be worse off than before. Worse, we are going to infuse ourselves with their sick energy. And we will not feel good for a day, perhaps longer until this is purged out of our auric fields.

Imagine a line drawn right down the center, from our head to our toes. Our left side is our feminine side. This is our side that draws energy, constantly, into our aura from the cosmos, and feeds us and keeps us alive on all levels.

Our right side is our masculine side and it is our “giving” side; much like a radio transmitter sending out a signal to another person/place/thing. This is why we always use the RIGHT hand, palm down, gently lying on the person or near the area that is injured. We want to remain open, get out of the way, and make our request for help through the being we believe in for this person. You will begin to feel tingling, heat or coolness starting to flow through our arm and/or fingers. Our client/friend will also feel it coming into them–usually as warmth,
but sometimes as coolness. Or, they may feel tingling or perhaps nothing at all. Any of these sensations are okay. If they feel nothing, they will see a reduction in their symptom(s) in about ten to thirty minutes after the healing process is completed.

For some people, they like to place both hands on a person. This is perfectly okay, especially if you’re standing behind them and they are sitting. So long as the RIGHT hand is always contacting the person physically, we can opt to use the left as well. It is only when we use the left alone, that trouble can begin. So, rule of thumb is use the right hand only on person use both hands, palms down, gently resting against the person physically.

8. Placement of Hands. First, wash your hands with war water before we begin work. We do not have to place our hand right over the area that is ailing. Never place our hands over a open wound due to infection or transmitted disease possibility. Many times, it is not possible to do this because even light pressure is highly painful or uncomfortable to the person. Instead, just putting our hand on their right or left shoulder works just as well. We never put our hand over the top of the healee’s head, ever. The Crown Chakra is there and by putting our hand over it, we are closing it down and shutting off energy that the person needs. If possible, we will put our right hand on the person’s left hand. In other words we are sending energy from our right hand into the person’s normal, receptive left
hand. And there have been times when we will simply lay our hands on a person’s ankle or lower leg that is not injured.

We never lay our hand over any part of a person’s body that they consider private; such as a woman’s breasts, or near the genital region.

9. Healer in Standing Position: If we are standing while we are allowing the cosmic energy to funnel through us to the person, we must unlock our knees. We must keep our knees “soft” instead. What this means is that locked knees actually stop the grounding process. It also stops the coming/going flow of energy for us and that’s not what we want while working.

10. Healer in Sitting Position. If we are sitting in a chair next to the person, be sure not to cross our ankles or legs when working. Both our feet should be flat on the ground for the entire length of treatment. If we cross our legs we are blocking the running of natural energies
through our aura for ourselves. This can cause turbulence and we may end up feeling tired or worn out afterward.

11. Healee TalkingDuring Healing. Sometimes, the person likes to talk to us as we have our hands on them, running the energy. This is fine. It is not a problem nor does it cause a problem. After all, we do not have to “concentrate” on getting this energy to come through the top of our head (our crown chakra); it will just happen naturally after we have grounded ourselves, fixed our intent to “run energy” for this person and we have laid our right hand on them. Often, a person may feel heat or other sensations and we should encourage them to let us know what they are feeling during the session. Some people don’t want to talk and we should respect that too. Others are too sick to talk. Or, they are in a coma or unconscious. Take the client’s lead: if they want to talk, we can talk with them. If they don’t, then just quietly do our part in this process.

12. After care. To end the session we wash our hands in running water. Sit with our client and make notes on what they felt, if anything. A client does not have to feel anything for the energy to be helpful. About fifty percent of the time, people do not feel anything. We should just note that on our notebook information. If the client does feel something, we write it down. Also, if we saw, felt or heard anything saw colours, animals, faces, symbols, etc. we must make sure to share them with our client and ask if what we saw means anything to them. It may or may not.

Over time, these will become enlightening or significant in some way to the client.

We should always ask the person to call us in 48 hours after the healing took place. Again, take notes. There should be changes in their condition or symptoms for the better by this time.

In a small percentage of time, there are people who don’t really feel different upwards of 72 hours after a healing. Again, this is normal and nothing to be concerned about. Everyone absorbs cosmic energy at a different rate and speed because we are all unique.

And, it’s always nice to hear from the person a week or two after a hands on healing.

We always need to keep notes; because we will learn from them and clients will educate us. There is always something to learn here and it is ever evolving and unending.

One of the many benefits of being a “conduit” is that we receive healing as well when we lay hands on another. That loving cosmic energy flowing through us is a gift and a blessing for us, too.
